In this chapter, you learned how to purchase a Microsoft Azure subscription and how to create an account. You also learned how to create your first virtual machine in Microsoft Azure. The importance of understanding the function of Virtual Networks is clear now. Apart from being created manually, virtual machines can be created by PowerShell or even by using a command-line interface. PowerShell is a very powerful tool for managing large numbers of virtual machines.
In the next chapter, you are going to learn how to connect our on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure using a VPN connection. To provide non-IT staff access to clouds running on-premises, in Azure, or in a service provider environment, we use System Center App Controller.
