Working with vCloud roles


Let's talk about roles and what they can do for you.

Getting ready

You need a user or a group to which you want to give a different role. Roles can be assigned to users and groups.

How to do it...

Working with roles is split into two sections: creating the role and using it.

Creating a new role

Perform the following steps to create a new role:

  1. Make a list of all the actions that the user should be able to do.

  2. Make a list of all the actions that the user should not be able to do.

  3. Log in to vCloud as SysAdmin.

  4. Navigate to System | Administration | Roles.

  5. Check if one of the preconfigured roles is satisfying the requirements.

  6. If not, check what role is closed and copy this role by right-clicking on the role and choosing Copy to.

  7. If no role fits, create a new one by clicking on the green icon (+).

  8. While creating a new role or a copy of an existing one, it is important to give it a good name.
