Summary

In this chapter, we discussed that vCenter is the centralized management tool by VMware, and it is used to manage multiple ESXi hosts and virtual machines from a single centralized location. It can be accessed using the vSphere Client or the Web Client. In order to use the vCenter Server, we need to install the vCenter Server Appliance or install vCenter Server on a Microsoft Windows Server system. The vCenter Appliance enables the administrator the ability to configure the vCenter Server for use. Once configured properly, vCenter Server can be used to manage the server's inventory, ESXi hosts, virtual machines, and other infrastructure components. vCenter Server is also responsible for managing the licensing of the vSphere infrastructure.

In the next chapter, we will cover basic operations with a virtual machine, such as different methods of creation, thin and thick provisioning of a VM, installation of operating systems in VMs, and creating clones/templates.
