Creating custom catalogs


Previously, we have used VMware vCloud Air's readymade catalog of templates to spin up our virtual machines. As a cloud administrator, you can create and publish your custom catalogs to vCloud Air as well. Let's now look at some easy options that will help you to create your very own catalogs.

Catalogs are a means to share and provide virtual machine templates to end users. VMware vCloud Air provides a default catalog by which you can deploy readymade templates in your virtual datacenter, but you can also create and deploy your own custom virtual machines using your very own catalogs. These catalogs are created and populated using the VMware vCloud Director UI only.

To create your own catalog, select the Manage in vCloud Director option from the vCloud Air dashboard. You will be automatically logged in to a vCloud Director UI. From the context menu, on the right-hand side of the UI, select New Catalog, as shown here:
