Preparing a database for vSphere Update Manager

Before you install vSphere Update Manager, you need to decide whether to use an existing database server or use the installer-packaged SQL Express.

The database user should have a sysadmin or db_owner role for SQL.

For a list of compatible databases with vSphere Update Manager, you can use the VMware Product Interoperability Matrixes.
