Staging patches

The remediation time is the cumulative time required to download and install patches on the ESXi server. The update manager can download the patches to the ESXi and perform a remediation at a later date/time. This process is called Staging.

How to do it...

The following procedure will help you stage patches for remediation:

  1. Attach a baseline to a host/cluster, and then click on Scan to scan for compliance.

  2. If the scan reports non-compliance then click on the Stage button to bring-up the Stage wizard.

  3. At the Stage wizard, make sure that the correct baseline is selected and click on Next.

  4. The next screen shows all the patches that will be staged. You can exclude patches by deselecting them, if needed.

  5. On the Ready to complete screen, review the options and click on Finish to stage the patches.

How it works...

The staging process copies the patches to be installed onto the ESXi host. It is not required for the host to be in maintenance mode while the patches are being staged, hence saving...
