Configuring UMDS and downloading data

UDMS can be configured to download and export patches to a shared repository. The entire configuration is done via the Windows command line.

How to do it...

The following procedure will help you configure UMDS and download data:

  1. Locate the vm-umds.exe under the following directory:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager

  2. By default, the UMDS will only download patches and notifications for hosts. To configure it to download even the VA upgrades, you should run the following command:

    vmware-umds -S --enable-host --enable-va

  3. If you need to change the patch repository location (optional) then issue the following command:

    Syntax:

    vmware-umds -S --patch-store your_new_patchstore_folder

    Example:

    vmware-umds -S --patch-store C:\Data_Here

  4. You can add a patch download source by using the following command:

    Syntax:

    vmware-umds -S --add-url https://host_URL/index.xml --url-type HOST

    Example:

    vmware-umds -S --add-url http://vibsdepot.hp.com/index...
