Enabling the chaining of DPM servers


This recipe will cover what chaining of DPM servers is and also how to set it up.

Having multiple datacenters is, in many cases, necessary for your business to be able to provide a true disaster recovery scenario or solution.

How to do it…

Enabling chaining between DPM servers is done via installing or attaching the primary DPM server to the secondary DPM server. In the scenario that you have two DPM servers that are either located in two physical locations or are protecting one half of the datacenter each, you need to enable a disaster recovery solution that makes it possible for one DPM server to be both primary for its protected data sources and also a secondary DPM server for the other DPM servers protected data sources:

  1. On each DPM server that should become a secondary DPM server in the protection process, go to the Management view and click on Agents. In the top-left corner of the console, click on the Install button to start Protection Agent Installation...
