Switching from the primary to secondary DPM server


This recipe will cover how to switch a secondary DPM server to a primary DPM server for a protected data source.

Building a disaster recovery solution also includes controlled failover tests between resources that are part of the plan. This is also applicable to the DPM-DPM-DR scenario that you build up by using primary and secondary DPM servers.

The most common problem, when building a disaster recovery scenario, is that companies and organizations miss the fact that they must verify that their disaster recovery strategy really works on a regular basis. In DPM, this can be verified really easily, either via the DPM server console taking ownership of a protected workload, or via PowerShell creating an automated scenario that will adapt to the business continuity plan that is set and regulated within the company.
