Configuring the DPM disk pool


This recipe covers points to be considered when configuring the hardware that will store the DPM disk pool.

Getting ready

System Center Data Protection Manager consumes a large amount of disk space to be able to provide suitable data protection. The product group for DPM understood the pain of this and has provided deduplication of the DPM disk pool if you place the VHD or VHDX files on a Scaled-Out File Server (SOFS) that has deduplication enabled.

It is important to purchase the right kind of hardware for your solution that will also map directly to an optimal ROI. The recommendation is, of course, to empower your solution using SOFS but if you do not have the required budget, there are some important facts that you need to consider.
