Applying update rollups (UR) to the DPM server


This recipe will cover the points to keep in mind before, during, and after you apply an update rollup to your DPM server.

Getting ready

Microsoft is continuously improving their products making them more optimal, covering more features or enabling new supported scenarios. This is the main reason that you need to keep up with applying the update rollups that Microsoft creates for you.

There are, however, some considerations that you must keep in mind before you start to apply an update rollup:

  • Verify that all data sources are reporting healthy

  • Verify that all DPM agents are reporting OK

  • Have a rollback plan

  • Plan the installation of the update rollup

When you upgrade a System Center family member, it is always critical that your database is backed up. Update rollups will alter the configuration of your DPMDB and therefore, it is critical that you either backup the DPMDB by using another DPM server or dump the DPMDB using the DPMBackup executable.
