Protecting file server clusters


Any modern data center has one or several server clusters to provide a high availability service for its hosted data. This recipe will provide help you with the requirements that are needed before you protect your clustered file servers.

Getting ready

A clustered file server resource relies on resource groups that will host the data, enabled for high availability. There are some considerations that the DPM administrator must keep in mind, while both setting up the protection and adapting the DPM server technology to the cluster maintenance or management tasks.

It is important to understand how DPM interacts with and sees the actual clustered resources; this is particularly important in the case of different failover scenarios. In the case of a planned failover of a cluster, DPM will continue to protect the data source. In the case of an unplanned failover, DPM issues an alert that a consistency check is required.
