Understanding the considerations for Hyper-V protection


This recipe covers what needs to be considered before providing a solid restore plan for your virtual environments.

One of the key tasks is to be able to provide a restore operation that is based on and delivered through a well thought-out design. A majority of new deployments of a private cloud forget the importance of having a backup and the function it provides, in case of either corruption or accidental deletion of data. For System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2 to be able to start sending its VSS queries, it must be able to communicate via its DPM agents. You must deploy DPM agents to all Hyper-V nodes and also to all members of the SOFS cluster and also enable the File Server VSS Agent on all servers that host the SOFS.

System Center Data Protection 2012 R2 will understand the Hyper-V clusters in a fully supported manner. When different virtual machines fail -over from one node in the cluster to another, DPM will seamlessly...
