Understanding SharePoint maintenance tasks

This recipe will cover the information that you need to understand the SharePoint maintenance tasks.

Getting ready

As a SharePoint administrator, it is important to perform different maintenance tasks on the SharePoint farm, SQL Server, and the Windows server operating systems that host the SharePoint farm, so as to keep it in a state of optimal performance.

How to do it...

When maintenance tasks are being performed on a SharePoint farm, it is important that no backup job is running. This can easily be controlled since you can easily disable the DPM agent via the DPM console.

Go to Management and click on Agent; right-click on the DPM agent and choose Disable protection. An information box will inform you that you can't perform any recovery job for the data sources that reside on the server on which the DPM agent is installed during the time it is disabled. Click on Yes to confirm that you would like to set the DPM agent to a disable mode.
