Creating a Protection Group for client protection

This recipe will cover some of the core fundamentals regarding client protection in DPM.

Getting ready

As mentioned in the introduction, client protection is a natural replacement for the folder redirection policy that will empower end users to perform both backups and restore the job under both restricted manners or as admins, depending on the scenario.

The client protection in DPM will provide you with a single administration point for up to 1000 clients per DPM server, using the co-location feature for the DPM disk pool configuration for the protection group. If you have multiple DPM servers, you just move your management to System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2 and start using the central console as your administrative point. Still, there should be just a single glass of pane for alerts and administration, which is something that you, as a DPM administrator, should always strive for.
