Remediating a host or a cluster


We learned how to create baselines and baseline groups. The purpose of creating these is to remediate an ESXi server. In this recipe, we will learn how to remediate an ESXi server or a cluster of ESXi hosts. Remediation refers to the process of installing the chosen patches or upgrades on the ESXi server.

How to do it...

The following procedure will guide you through the steps required to remediate an ESXi server:

  1. Select an ESXi server or ESXi cluster from the inventory and navigate to the Update Manager tab and click on Attach... to bring up the Attach Baseline or Baseline Group window:

  2. On the Attach Baseline or Baseline Group window, select a baseline or baseline group and click on Attach to tag it to the ESXi server as demonstrated in the following screenshot:

  3. Once a baseline has been attached, click on Scan to scan for compliance.

  4. The scan completes and displays the noncompliance details, if any.

  5. Click on Remediate... to bring up the Remediate wizard.
