In scenarios where the Update Manager server cannot be provided with access to the Internet, you can configure the Update Manager server to access a shared repository containing patch data. For instructions on how to create a shared repository, read the recipe Creating a shared repository.
The following procedure will help you to configure access to a shared repository:
On the UMDS server, set the shared repository folder as the "export store". Read the Creating a shared repository section for instructions.
Once a shared repository has been created, connect to the vCenter Server by using the vSphere Client and navigate to Home | Update Manager. Navigate to the Configuration tab and then to Download Settings. Select the Use a shared repository option to specify a shared repository and click on Validate URL. If the validation is successful, it will show the status as Connected. Once the URL is validated, click on Apply to save the download settings.
