Adding hosts to a vSphere Distributed Switch

Once a VDS has been created, we now have to add the ESXi hosts to the VDS so that it's physical NIC can be mapped.

How to do it...

The following procedure explains how to attach ESXi hosts to a VDS:

  1. Connect to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Web Client and use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + 6 to go to the Network Inventory view.

  2. Right-click on the VDS to which you want to add the hosts to, and click on the Add and Manage Hosts menu item as demonstrated in the following screenshot:

  3. In the Add and Manage Hosts wizard, select Add hosts and click on Next to continue.

  4. On the next screen, click on New hosts to bring up the Select new hosts window.

  5. In the Select new hosts window, select the hosts that you want to add to the VDS and click on OK.

  6. The Select hosts wizard should now show the added hosts. Click on Next to continue.

Use the Configure identical network settings on multiple hosts (template mode) if you want uniform networking configuration...
