Deleting a VMFS datastore

Unlike the unmount operation, a delete operation will destroy all the data on the datastore. Once done, you cannot revert this operation. Hence, ensure that you move all the virtual machine data that is currently on the datastore to another datastore.

How to do it...

The following procedure will guide you to delete a datastore from the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Use the vSphere Web Client to connect to the vCenter Server.

  2. Navigate to Home | Storage.

  3. With the data center object selected, navigate to Related Objects | Datastores and identify the VMFS datastore to be deleted:

  4. Right-click on the datastore to be deleted and navigate to All vCenter Actions | Delete Datastore.

  5. Click on Yes in the Confirm Delete Datastore dialog box:

  6. Verify the Recent Tasks pane, which should show that Remove datastore completed successfully.
