A credit card is only used as proof of address. You will not be charged as long as you do not convert your trial to a paid subscription.
MSDN subscribers receive $75 free credit that renews each month. For the first month, you will even receive $150 credit.
For permanent subscription-based usage of Microsoft Azure, there are several ways to purchase:
Pay using a credit card directory to Microsoft. This is a pay-as-you-go model as the customer pays exactly for the consumed resources.
