XenDesktop® and layers of networking


In the preceding section, we took a more detailed look at processes involved in successfully connecting to virtual desktops. You can classify the levels and layers of networking involved in various modes. Based on specialization and administration scopes, we can classify them as layers of network, virtualization, and Windows networking. We will discuss the high-level overview of networking concepts and you'll need to refer to the respective component/technology vendor document for a more detailed understanding.

Networking in a traditional desktop environment

In a traditional physical desktop environment, each desktop is connected to a network through the physical NIC. Similarly, desk IP-phones are also connected using physical cables.
