When you want to create a new virtual machine, you usually create the VM using a template for the operating system you want to run on the VM. Citrix provides out of the box templates for Windows and Linux operating systems. See Appendix A, Supported Guest Operating Systems and Virtual Machine Templates, for a detailed list of available templates.
Obviously you can use a template you have created previously: We will cover template creation later in the chapter, so don't worry about this.
Note
Since XenServer is the virtualization hypervisor which Citrix suggests you use in order to virtualize Citrix XenApp Servers, Citrix has included by default in XenServer some templates you can use to deploy XenApp virtual machines. These templates are tuned to optimize XenApp performance and are related to XenApp 5 for Windows 2003 and 2008 and XenApp 6.x for Windows 2008 R2.
