Liferay Portal allows the administrator to add additional custom fields to many different types of assets and resources. Custom fields are added from the Control Panel | Configuration section. Suppose you want to have a custom field for the Users resource, say the Department field, for all the users, you just need to click on the Edit link beside User and add new custom fields with the key and type of fields. The following screenshot displays the list of resources where custom fields can be implemented:
In the preceding screenshot the Site and Organization resources already have the custom fields Branch and Socialofficeenabled. Let's add a new custom field for the User resource by following these steps:
Click on the Edit link next to the User resource.
Click on the Add Custom Field button to add a custom field.
Input the Key, that is, the field name that is going to be displayed to the user, say Department.
