Adding an event observer

An event listener (observer) is used when you want to hook in to an event. In the previous recipe, we fired an event. In this recipe, we will catch events and look at how we can execute custom code when the event occurs in the website.

Getting ready

For this recipe, we will add two event observers. The first one will catch the event that we created in the previous recipe. The second event listener (observer) will hook into the "add to cart" action of a product.

How to do it...

The following steps describe what you can do with event observers:

  1. To listen to the helloworld_register_edit event, we have to add configuration to the config.xml file of the Packt_Helloworld module. Add the following code in this file under the <global> tag:
