Plugins for website structure


In Chapter 2, Designing Responsive Layouts/Grids, we have seen plugins such as Fluid Baseline Grid System, 1140 Grid, and Foundation 4, which form a development kit that will help us to develop websites quickly. We need to keep in mind the objective to create a cohesive website and avoid wasting time recreating something that is already done.

There are some other additional plugins such as Columns, Equalize, and Packery which were not mentioned earlier in order to stay focused on building our website, but they are very useful.

Creating simple responsive structures using Columns

Let's start with the Columns plugin whose objective is to provide a quick creation of responsive layouts just as the Grid systems do. Its simplicity makes it lightweight and its learning curve is very fast. Columns has an MIT license, and works well on IE9 and modern browsers. If you want to use IE8, it will require polyfills for HTML5 and media queries.
