Sending an e-mail when a user creates an account


We have covered a number of recipes pertaining to events in concrete5 so far in this chapter. Now we can try out a common real-world example of using system events to execute custom code. In this recipe, we will send an e-mail to a site administrator whenever a user registers on the website.

Getting ready

Sending e-mails can be tricky business in PHP, as a lot of it can depend on individual server configuration. We will be using concrete5's Mail helper (discussed in more detail in Chapter 4, Using the Core Helpers), which helps a little bit, but misconfigured servers can still have problems. We will assume that your server (development or otherwise) is capable of sending e-mails.

Also, make sure that events are enabled in concrete5 as described in the Declaring advanced configuration variables recipe of this chapter!
