Summary

In this chapter, we learned the key consideration points when planning an Active Directory schema extension, how to prepare the tests and validations for the AD DS schema extension procedure, and learned how to export the current AD DS schema configuration.

We could also execute a practical AD DS schema extension procedure using a proper registered OID on top of a real application use case based on a PAM module implemented to solve a real use-case scenario.

At the end of the chapter, we learned how to execute general tests and validations of the health of Active Directory and learned a step-by-step procedure to perform a full comparison between the old AD DS schema and the new extended schema configuration to fully validate the whole process.

In the next chapter, we will learn how to implement a highly available distributed file server using the Samba 4 Server and some auxiliary software such as the GlusterFS distributed filesystem and the Cluster Trivial Database (CTDB).
