Fun with physics and collisions


Perhaps the most successful mobile game has been Angry Birds—a simple concept of sling-shooting cartoon birds to knock over the frame of a house. Angry Birds has several fundamental elements that make it a successful game, which are mentioned as follows:

  • Identifiable characters that people hold an affinity toward. In Angry Birds, even the pigs playing the role of bad guys are fun and rather adorable.

  • Physics and collision detection.

  • Simple, easy-to-understand concept—one can begin playing in an instant.

  • Easy user interface.

  • Fun challenge.

An interesting fact is that all this applies equally to Pac-Man or Mario, who himself is now considered one of the most recognized characters in the world, right up there with Mickey Mouse.
