Mission accomplished

Did you really think one project could cover all there is to do in games? Of course not, but we looked at some of the key elements of popular games: user interfaces both overlaid onto the window such as the buttons to move the camera, and controls within the game such as the dimmer switch for the lights. This project reviewed lighting, discussed misdirection to create a challenge, and implemented game physics. Oddly enough, my advice to students is to break the laws of physics. Be creative, be whimsical; there is humor in almost everything. Take game ideas, and then consider what its parody would look like. The spectrum is wide open. Games can be creative, such as Farmville, or destructive, such as Angry Birds; games can have simple characters like Pac-Man or complex characters like Batman. The art style can range from the retro-pixelated look of Minecraft to the futuristic look of Bioshock. So go out and construct in order to destroy.
