Mobile first and responsive grids


In this recipe, you will learn how to create mobile first and responsive grids with Susy. These grids first code the layout for small devices—the situation that none of the media queries evaluates to. Design changes and possible additional features are added for larger screens. The strategy for mobile first code is also explained already in the Mobile first strategies recipe of Chapter 7, Cross-Browser CSS3 Mixins.

Getting ready

This recipe uses the code from the Defining containers and columns recipe of this chapter. So, read this first and code the source code to your current working directory. Install both Sass and Susy, as described in the Installing and configuring Susy recipe of this chapter and the Installing Sass for command line usage recipe of Chapter 1, Getting Started with Sass.
