Typically, Joomla will lead your site visitor to a category's content in three steps. Between Main Menu and the actual content, there's a secondary page to show category contents. You can see how this works in the screenshots in the following sequence:

Then, visitors are taken to an overview page with article previews inviting them to click on the Read more link, as shown in the following screenshot:

As you can see, what's on the home page and the overview pages (and how it's presented) is vitally important to your site.
