Material design is a design language developed by Google. It is a comprehensive guide for visual, motion, and interactive design across various platforms and devices. It makes liberal use of grid-based layouts, responsive animations, transitions and effects, padding and depth effects such as lighting and shadow, and so on.
Initially, it was introduced by Google at the Google I/O 2014 conference. It was implemented for the first time in the Android Lollipop 5.0 release. It has been used in Google apps such as Gmail, YouTube, Inbox, Google Drive, Google Docs, and so on. Material Design Lite (MDL), Polymer, and Angular Material projects also provide official implementations. The PrimeFaces premium packages don't use any of these external libraries, but instead follow the material design specifications.
