Unpublishing of items


While working with some important content pages, which are not yet ready to go live, such as press releases or limited time offers, somehow, these get published and appear on live sites by mistake or due to improper workflows. In such cases, users will delete these pages from the content management environment and publish its parent to make sure that the pages get deleted from live. However, this is not a recommended practice, which is time-consuming and risky as well.

Luckily, Sitecore provides you with a facility to unpublish items. Let's see how to use it.

How to do it…

Let's see the steps to unpublish an item:

  1. Open the Content Editor and navigate to the content page that you want to unpublish.

  2. In the ribbon, click on the Change button in the Restrictions group from the Publish tab, which will open a dialog of Publishing Settings. Here, select the Item tab. Untick the Publishable checkbox and click on the OK button:
