Moodle Workplace migration versus web services

This section will describe the differences between migrations and web services. It is worth comparing the two approaches since both mechanisms facilitate data transfer from an external system to Moodle Workplace and vice versa. The discrepancies have been illustrated in the following diagram:

The two leftmost columns represent the data workflow from any external system to Moodle Workplace; the two rightmost columns show the opposite data flow direction, namely from Moodle Workplace back to external systems.

We have already described the migration import process in detail in Chapter 12, Migrations: the external system generates output in CSV, XML, or any other proprietary format. An optional data conversion step might be necessary to transform the data into a Workplace migration-compatible format. This import file will then be used as input for Moodle Workplace...
