Chapter 7. Internationalization and Localization

Internationalization (commonly abbreviated as i18n—first"i", then 18 other characters, then "n") and localization (l10n) are two inseparable parts of the same process—the process of making an application able to display itself in different locales. A locale is a set of language and country-specific attributes that most obviously include the language spoken in that part of the world, but also other details like number or currency format specific to a certain culture.

Internationalization means, making the application technically able to display itself in different languages. While localization provides locale-specific resources, but since these two processes are so inter-dependent, let's just refer to them both as internationalization in the remaining part of this chapter.
