In this chapter you have learned how to protect your Moodle system against any misuse.
Moodle is based on the LAMP platform, which has proven to be very secure if configured correctly. Moodle developers are very conscious about security since they know it is vital when dealing with personal user data such as grades. Hence, the topic has been given highest priority. However, there is no guarantee that your system is 100% protected against misuse. New hacking techniques will emerge and users will continue to be careless with their credentials (you have all seen the post-it notes under the keyboard.). So, make sure the security patches and updates on your entire system, not just Moodle, are always up-to-date and keep educating your users about the dangers.
The Health Check in Appendix 1 includes a security section in which you will find some additional settings which will help to safeguard your system.
Now that you system is secure, let's make sure it performs to its full potential.
