Purchasing and installing the Gold Cart module

At present, the Gold Cart upgrade has two pricing schemes: one for individual bloggers or hobbyists, and one for groups or businesses. What's the difference? The difference is only in the price, not in features or functionality. Individual store owners and non-profit organizations can purchase the Single / Blogger license. If your for-profit company has more than one staff member, you should opt for the Business license:

The current prices are $40 and $195 respectively.

Purchasing the Gold Cart upgrade gives you yet another chance to see the WP e-Commerce plugin in action, as Instinct Entertainment naturally uses it to power their own shopping cart. All transactions are handled through PayPal, so add your preferred package(s) to your cart and proceed to checkout:

After you pay for your Gold Cart upgrade, PayPal will redirect you back to Instinct for your transaction results, which will provide you with your username, an API key, and a download link for the Gold Cart files:

Tip

If your files or purchase receipt do not arrive immediately, be sure to check your Spam folder in your e-mail.

Installing the Gold Cart files

Getting the Gold Cart up and running is a two-step process. First, we need to upload the Gold files to the appropriate place on our server. Next, we need to add our API Key information within the WordPress Dashboard.

Within the Gold Cart archive that you downloaded after your purchase, you will potentially find more than one version of upgrade files. As of this writing, the Gold Cart upgrade package contains files for both the latest version (3.7) and the previous version (3.6). Of course, you need concern yourself only with the files relevant to whichever version of the plugin you are currently running. For example, if you are using WP e-Commerce version 3.7, you can safely discard the 3.6 upgrade folder:

As we are running WP e-Commerce version 3.7, we can ignore any other folders inside the Gold Cart files archive. Within the 3.7 folder, we will find a readme file and another folder called gold_cart_files:

To install the Gold Cart, upload the entire gold_cart_files folder to your WordPress installation on your server using your favorite FTP program. The path is: <your WordPress folder>/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/upgrades/.

Here is a tree-layout of the directory structure with the Gold Cart files in their proper place:

With the files uploaded correctly, we can now add our API Key information. Browse to your WordPress Dashboard and click on Upgrades under the Products menu:

The hard part is over. All we need to do now to complete the upgrade is add our username and API information that we received earlier. On the Upgrades page, you should now see a panel where you can add your unique username and API Key:

Click on the Submit button to validate your information. The additional Gold Cart features should now be unlocked and available to you:
