We have seen how to send e-mails from different events from Alfresco. Another quite useful feature of Alfresco is that, the system can automatically pull e-mails, just like a standard SMTP server does, and store the e-mail messages in the repository along with all the attachments.
This is known as the inbound e-mail service of Alfresco. For example, you can configure a particular e-mail ID in Alfresco and whenever any e-mail is sent to this ID, the e-mail content is saved into the repository automatically. This can be used as a very efficient and useful way to store important information in the repository. No more manual copy, uploaded via the web application or any other systems.
