Securing the administrator URL


One quite useful change you can make to your Joomla! administrator panel is to obscure the administrator login panel from view.

Getting ready

You need an extension called jSecure Authentication for this recipe, which you can download from the Joomla! extensions directory at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-a-security/site-security/5809:

The extension is free to download, but you need to register a user account to access the file.

How to do it...

  1. 1. Install the extension through the Extensions | Install/Uninstall option in your Joomla! administrator panel. In particular, you'll need to ensure that the \tmp and \plugins\system directories have the necessary permissions set to allow Joomla! to copy files to and from them.
