Time for action – installation and basic setup of Xataface


Xataface does introduce a method for users to access the Moodle database directly, so we'll want to be very careful in how we install and set it up. It is highly recommended that you first set up Xataface in a test environment such as the MAMP server we have set up for this book. Follow these steps to get your Xataface tool downloaded, installed, and set up:

  1. Navigate to the Xataface website found at: http://xataface.com.

  2. Click on the Download the latest version link found on the front page of the site, as shown in the following screenshot:

  3. The link will redirect you to a SourceForge page from which the latest version can be downloaded. The latest version will be at the top of the list and packaged both as tar.gz and zip packages. Download either of the compressed packages.

  4. Expand the contents of the package and rename it to Xataface.
