Chapter 5. Navigation Made Easier: Toolbars

One of the very first things we are used to looking for in the website is some form of navigation, a series of buttons or links we can use to move from one page to another.

There have been many studies on the field of how readers (or readers of a website) look at a page and process information, and how they gather the key words and sentences is quite a well-known fact as of now: people tend to look at the left-most content first and they place more attention on words and images which are bold and close to the top.

Website designers know this, and place the most important information near that area: the majority of the websites out there (exception made for those which are edgy and artistic – or try to) have their logo and menu on the top of the page. Some prefer a horizontal list of links; some go for vertical buttons.
