Defining a search on the Neighborhood site

Searching is the core functionality required for any site. It allows the end user to find required information from the site, without having to manually look on the site. In this section, we will learn about the searching functionality provided by Liferay. Liferay provides two out-of-the-box portlets for search functionality, which are as follows:

  • Search Portlet: This portlet searches everything in the entire content's web content, blogs, Wikis, and message boards.

  • Web Content Search Portlet: This portlet searches only web content.

Let's explore it.

Setting site wide search on the Neighborhood site

First, we will explore Liferay Search Portlet, which is capable of searching in every asset type (for example, Wikis, blogs, web content, bookmark, and so on). Let's see it in action.
