Azure Storage Queue service


The Queue service is a way of sending reliable messages to different parts of your Azure application. If you have multiple roles in your application (web and worker roles), then there is a need to be able to communicate between them in an asynchronous manner.

The Queue service consists of two main components:

  • Queue: Holds the individual messages within itself

  • Message: The packet of information that is stored inside of the queue

Queues are private and are held with a storage account. A storage account may have an unlimited number of message queues, as long as each are named uniquely. The name of the queue only needs to be unique within the storage account and not globally unique as it is specific to an account.

Messages in a queue have no fixed schema, so it is possible to put many different message types within a single queue , for example, data for cats that need to be identified and also dogs. Be aware that putting many different message types into a single...
