XTemplate is a mechanism to support templated content. In other words, you define an HTML snippet, or template, using special markers for data items to appear in the right place. The XTemplate is then populated with data at the right time. XTemplates support both single data and repeated data templates. The data is typically a JSON structure and the JSON structure is not limited to a flat list of properties and their values; it can be hierarchical. We will have a quick look at a basic XTemplate using a single data structure, and then see how we can apply XTemplates to lists of repeated data.
