Overview of this book

"A great book for getting the most out of your cPanel-supporting web host" If you have web hosting requirements beyond the most basic, you should look for a host that offers cPanel. cPanel gives you tight control over every aspect of your web site, email accounts, and domain names. But once you've got a web site with cPanel support, how do you go about using it? While the documentation included with cPanel may provide a quick reference, to really get the most from it you need a more detailed, systematic tutorial. Read this book to find out exactly how to get the most from cPanel in all aspects of your web site management: web, email, FTP, security, domains, back ups, and more.

Changing your cPanel Password

Regularly changing your password to a random, long, hard‑to‑guess one is a critical cornerstone in keeping your web hosting account safe from those who would seek to destroy your site or steal sensitive content. It is recommended that you change your password once a month.

After logging into your cPanel account, you can change your password by clicking Change Password. This changes your administrator password, which is used to log in to your cPanel mail, FTP, and SSH accounts. Keep in mind that if you change your password, you will need to follow cPanel’s rules for a safe password:

  • The length of the password should be greater than 6 characters

  • It should not include any words found in a dictionary

  • It should contain at least one number

  • It should contain one or more non‑alphanumeric characters

It is strongly recommended that you also take the advice cPanel provides about protecting your password.

Your web host may also permit you to automatically change your cPanel...
