Media library


The media library is where WordPress stores all of your uploaded files—images, PDFs, music, videos, and so on. To see your media library, navigate to Media in the main menu (probably not a lot of media there at the moment):

The preceding screenshot shows the now-familiar management table/listing. My media library has only one photo. I uploaded it to place it inside the Butternut Squash soup post. As you can see from the preceding screenshot, it shows me the following:

  • A thumbnail of the image. If this were another type of media, I'd see an icon representing the type of media.

  • The title that I gave the file when I uploaded it, along with the format extension.

  • The author of the file.

  • Information about which post or page the file is attached to. This will be important when it comes to making an image gallery. The uploaded file will be attached to the post or page that you are editing while uploading a file.

  • The number of comments waiting on the attached post or page.

  • The date when the...
