The primary task of any intranet is to allow efficient exchange of information between the employees of a company. In most cases, business knowledge is stored in the form of files and—if the company does not have a dedicated system—distributed between mailboxes, network drives, FTP servers, employees' computer drives, and external data carriers. In such cases, there is often a problem in determining who has the current version of the file, whether such documents exist at all, or where to find them.
