Setting up cohorts in a course allows you to create smaller groups of students. This is especially useful in very large courses. Different cohorts of students can have different experiences, including discussions that are limited to members of the same cohort.
A student must be assigned to one cohort, and that student must remain in the same cohort for the duration of a class.
