Transferring items from one database to another


In the real world, developers or content authors may face situations such as accidently deleting or changing an item from the master database and wanting to copy the item from the web database back to the master database. We have many other options such as serialization and packaging, but these only work for databases with the same name.

In this case, that is, recovering data from one database to another, you can use this out-of-the-box mechanism of transferring items.

Getting ready

A user must have administrator rights in Sitecore to transfer items from one database to another.

How to do it…

We will first open the Move an Item to Another Database tool:

  1. Log in to Sitecore with an administrator account, and open Desktop.

  2. From the bottom right corner, select the source database from where you want to copy the item, that is, select the web database as we want to transfer the item from web to master.

  3. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
