Sitecore is capable of allowing multiple different websites in a single installation, though the basic Sitecore installation contains only one physical website (a Sitecore instance) and contains a few virtual websites (managed by Sitecore internally) such as shell, login, admin, website, scheduler, system, and publisher.
The website definitions, including their properties, are defined in Sitecore.config
. The site resolver determines the incoming HTTP requests and assigns an appropriate site based on the defined hostname.
In this recipe, we will create multiple sites that can be configured on both content management (CM) and content delivery (CD) Sitecore instances. We will also explore how to configure site-specific cache sizes and clear an HTML cache for all sites.
